The Winter 2013/2014 collection is out, and the Aquos Phone Xx 302SH is one of two smartphones to be released in it. And quite expectedly, every specification has been beefed up in the bigger, better, faster race we've been witnessing these days.
The Aquos Phone Xx 302SH comes with a massive 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) resolution made using Sharp's S-CG Silicon LCD. The even narrower frame makes an even higher percentage of screen estate available to the user - 80.5% of the phone's visible surface is occupied by the display.
To power this monster, a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor (Qualcomm MSM8974) has been used, along with 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of built-in memory.
The Aquos Phone Xx 302SH also brings the joy of Full Seg digital television in, of course, full HD brilliance - for both playback and recording. To further enhance the viewing experience, an external antenna connection has been made possible, and a desktop holder with a front speaker opening has been provided. Plus, it is now possible to check various information such as email, news, and launch other apps using a new quick launcher.
On the 302SH we find a 16.3 megapixel camera with high-speed auto focus that boasts the world's best F-value in mobile device cameras, F 1.9, which allows for excellent night-time shots. The two functions have been dubbed BrightEye + NightCatch. Another first-timer here is the multi-focus ability.
Conveniently, the camera now comes with a built-in translation feature which makes it possible to capture English text, translate it into Japanese, and embed the translation in the original photo!
But that's not all, folks! Sharp have also worked hard to improve their Feel UX user interface making it even more appealing, customizable and functional.
The Aquos Phone Xx 302SH also boasts the Feel Musician functionality offering an amazing listening experience with DTS sound and the ability to automatically launch the music player when headphones are plugged in, resuming playback from where you left off last time.
Connectivity-wise, SoftBank continue their competition with Docomo and now also offer 4G LTE connection guaranteeing download speeds of up to 110 mbps. An improvement in wireless connectivity has been made as well - now supported are 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac modes, and Bluetooth 4.0.
The phone is, of course, water-proof (IPX5/IPX7), although dust-proofing has not yet been confirmed.
Measuring 70 × 132 × 9.9mm, the Aquos Phone Xx 302SH weighs 147 grams. The installed - and non-removable - battery has a capacity of 2600 mAh.
In early 2014, a DisneyMobile version was launched codenamed DM016SH.
Although the 302SH was released before the new SIM unlock policy went into effect, the phone can apparently be unlocked. Some sellers on Yahoo Auctions Japan offer the unlocking service for 4500 Yen. But it is only done by sending the phone to the unlocked by mail.
