Sharp's flagship for AU's Summer 2014 collection was announced on 9 May, the Aquos Serie SHL25. This is in fact the same machine that SoftBank are getting under the monicker of Aquos Xx 304SH, and Docomo are getting as Aquos Phone SH-04F, only minor differences existing.

The SHL25 belongs to the EDGEST series, Sharp's extremely narrow bezel line which in this case achieves 80% screen area of the device's surface (vs. 78% on the 304SH). The 5.2-inch display has a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, is built using the IGZO technology, but now Sharp have added PureLED display backlight technology - to not only deliver more vivid colours and deeper contrast but also ensure reduced power consumption.

The Aquos Serie SHL25 is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974AB (Snapdragon 801) processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, the operating memory is 2 GB, and the onboard storage (ROM) is 32 GB. This can be expanded using microSDXC cards of up to 128 GB.

The camera is a 13.1-megapixel shooter that features the new generation NightCatch II flash and BrightEye f/1.9 aperture technology for shooting in the dark, real-time HDR that automatically adjusts the sensor to the backlight level. The camera also features burst mode for up to 999 consecutive shots in full resolution, and framing advisor to help correctly frame the photo, as well as omnidirectional shooting (Photosphere). The video camera is capable of recording 3,840×2,160 pixel video! The inner camera is 2.1 megapixels and can do multi-focal shooting.

The Aquos Series SHL25 has Full-Seg support for terrestrial digital television for viewing, recording and broadcasting. The phone has DTS Surround Sound technology for immersive hearing experience. The built-in Video Player app supports playback of 4K2K resolution video with the option to zoom to a chosen segment of the screen image.

The pre-installed OS is Android 4.4. In December 2015, an upgrade to Android 5.0 was released.

Supported are Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/an (draft) for both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, Infrared, NFC. Operating radio bands are WiMAX 2+ and LTE/GSM/UMTS for overseas.

The battery capacity has been slightly extended in comparison with the preceding model (SHL23), which has 3000 mAh, to 3150 mAh, which should be able to guarantee the advertised 3-days-with-one-charge battery life. The extended battery explains the 141 grams weight – compared to SoftBank's Aquos Xx 304SH, which weighs 137 grams but the battery is 2600 mAh.

The Aquos Series SHL25 weighs 141 grams and measures 71 × 134 × 9.9 mm, and is, naturally, waterproof (IPX5/IPX7). It is offered in white, pink, and navy.
