The Aquos Zeta SH-04F is Sharp's flagship for DoCoMo's Summer 2014 collection, and like in SoftBank's newest, we notice that the word "Phone" is no longer in use in the series name, e.g. "Aquos Phone" became just "Aquos".
The Zeta SH-04F comes with a 5.4-inch screen Full HD (1080 x 1920 px) resolution of the EDGEST series having very narrow bezel – for this model allowing 81% of the phone's surface to be occupied by the display. Like SoftBank's 304SH and AU's SHL25, this has the Pure-LED backlight technology for improved colour representation. Coupled with the new generation IGZO technology, there's a guarantee for long battery life – three days with one charge! Obviously, a strong battery is also needed – the SH-04F comes with a 3300 mAh battery.
The main camera is the now familiar 13.1 megapixel shooter with technologies like the NightCatch II, f/1.9 aperture, LED flash, real-time HDR, Framing Advisor (to help correctly frame the photo) are all deployed in it. Photo Sphere (or omnidirectional shooting) is now also included as a feature. One notable shortcoming, however, is the lack of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The secondary camera is 2.1 megapixel.
A new feature of the camera is NAVITIME – an improvement of the Augment Reality features from before – which can advise you what the distance to a selected destination is, and what is nearby, such as ATMs, PoIs etc.
Also featured is multi-focal shooting allowing you to focus both on the foreground and the background. The camera is also capable of recording 4K2K video – resolution of 4 times Full HD, or 3,840 × 2,160 pixels.
The Aquos Zeta SH-04F is eqipped with DTS Surround Sound for an immersive video- and audio- experience.
Here we find the clever new function first introduced on the 304SH – the "with one hand" quick launcher feature, where, tapping the dedicated button located in the bottom right corner, the screen is "compacted" to enable one-hand operation. The "reduced screen" contains links to frequently visited apps and functions, history and favourites.
The phone has been built into a "Hexa-Grip" shape ensuring more comfortable holding and reduced chance for the phone to slip out of your hand.
Connectivity-wise, the SH-04F comes with Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, InfraRed, both OneSeg and FullSeg digital TV, NOTTV, Mobile Wallet (Felica + NFC). LTE, 3G and GSM frequencies are all supported, and the phone allows tethering via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB.
All of this is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) clocked at 2.3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of built-in storage. Memory expansion is supported for up to SDXC cards of 128 GB.
The Aquos Phone weighs 154 grams, measures 140 mm x 74 mm x 9.3 mm, and is available in orange, white and black.
