Just released (end of June 2016) is Sharp's third SIM-free phone, dubbed the Aquos mini SH-M03. Similarly to the previous two MVNO phones, this one is again the "lower" model, not the flagship, and it is a rebranding of last season's model, the SHV33 on AU, the Aquos Xx2 mini 503SH on Softbank, or Aquos Compact SH-02H on Docomo.

The Aquos mini SH-M03 has a 4.7-inch FHD IGZO display of the EDGEST series for very narrow bezel. This is Sharp's high-speed IGZO that is the world's first mobile display supporting 120 Hz refresh rate. And of course it uses the latest iteration of the S-PureLED backlight for accurate colour reproduction.

It is indeed a mini phone, weighing in just 120 grams and measuring 126 × 66 × 8.9 mm. The battery capacity is 2810 mAh.

Under the hood, however, is a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor (MSM8992) havig two 1.8 GHz and four 1.4 GHz cores. The phone also comes with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of ROM, expandable using up to 200 GB microSDXC cards.

The camera is a 13.1-megapixel shooter complete with all the great features seen in carrier-subsidised models: Ricoh GR-certified lens, f/1.9 aperture + NightCatch II for excellent night-time photography, optical image stabilisation, high-speed shooting of 120 frames per second, interpolated super slow speed shooting of 2100 fps (FWVGA) and 1200 fps (FHD).

The inner camera is 5 MP and supports 83-degree wide-angle shooting for all those selfie lovers.

The Aquos mini SH-M03 of course has the Grip Magic dual side sensors offering various useful features llike checking the time by just holding the phone, checking missed calls and emails by holding the phone in your pocket, preventing the screen from rotating when lying down, keeping the backlight on while reading, etc. It also supports Clip Now for easy taking of screeshots by just sliding your finger along the top edge of the display. And basic operation while using a closed-type bookcase-style cover. And Glove Mode for easy operation of the touchscreen when wearing gloves.

The SH-M03 is a capless waterproof (IPX5/8) and dustproof (IP6X) phone.

What is different from the earlier minis is the AM3D ZIRENE® SOUND engine for enhanced digital audio output to both headphones and external speakers.

This phone also supports Full Seg digital television, mobile wallet/NFC, auto GPS with GLONASS support, Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac standards, Bluetooth 4.1, but no infrared.

The Aquos mini SH-M03 supports LTE/3G/GSM frequencies as follows:
LTE: Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 19 (800 MHz),
3G: Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 5 (850 Mhz), Band 6 (800 Mhz), Band 19 (800 MHz).

Of course, Sharp's Artificial Intelligence emotional partner (EMOPA) is included as well. Only if they made it dual-language to include English...

The Aquos mini SH-M03 runs Android 6.0. It is offered in white and red. The retail price is 44,800 Yen or about 436 USD (exchange rate of 1 July 2016).
