Announced on 25 August 2016, the Sharp Z2 (FS8002) is a SIM-free smartphone launched for the Taiwanese market. Subsequently, the Z2 was also released for the Singaporean and Malaysian markets.

The Sharp Z2 comes with a 5.5-inch FHD display (401ppi) built using Sharp's advanced high-speed Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) technology offering a 120 Hz screen refresh rate. The device features a 2.5-dimensional glass design and a metal body with rather large top and bottom bezels, very similar in appearance to the Summer 2016 devices released in Japan. The display is protected using Corning Gorilla Glass III.

The Z2 is, however, not powered by a Qualcomm processor but relies on a a ten-core MediaTek, the Helio X20 MT6797 SoC clocked at 4 x 2.3 GHz, 4 x 2 GHz, and 2 x 1.4 GH. This is coupled with 4 GB of RAM, more than any Japanese Sharp, and 32 GB built-in storage, expandable using microSDXC cards to up to 128 GB (the memory card occupies one of the SIM slots).

The main camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with dual-tone LED flash and Phase Detection Auto Focus, f/1.8 aperture for quality night shots. It is, naturally, capable of recording 4K videos. The inner camera is 8 MP, 82-degree wide-angle shooter that, surprisingly, also has f/1.8 aperture.

The Sharp Z2 comes with a fingerprint scanner located at the back and is a dual-SIM device: two nanoSIM slots, dual standby, but only one of them will support 4G LTE. Supported frequencies include:
GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
WCDMA (850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz)
TD-SCDMA: B34 / B39 MHz
FDD LTE: B1 / B3 / B5 / B7 / B8 / B28
TDD LTE: B38 / B39 / B40 / B41,
meaning it should work on just about any network in the world!

The deice supports fast charge functionality that lets you charge the 3000 mAh battery to 50% within just half an hour.

Other features include dual-band (2.4/5 GHz) Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, InfraRed for universal remote control, USB 2.0 Type-C, GPS + GLONASS.

The Sharp Z2 will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow but an upgrade to 7.0 is expected to follow at a later time.

It measures 153 mm x 75 mm x 8.4 mm and weighs about 160 grams, including the non-removable battery. The colour options are not particularly rich: gold and silver.

The NT$8,890 ($281 / €249) retail price in Taiwan puts the Sharp Z2 in the rather affordable section.
