Mid-April 2017: Foxconn have rolled out another Sharp-branded phone in Taiwan, the Z3. This phone is hardly new, though, as it was previously released (in 2016) under the base name Infocus M820, dubbed TG Luna S on South Korean carrier SK Telecom. As expected, Foxconn are simply using the brand ownership they aquired along with purchasing a major share of Sharp last year.

The Sharp Z3 comes with a 5.7-inch display with a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels boasting a 520-nit brightness that should guarantee bright and clear views even in the sun. On top of that is a 2.5D protective Gorilla Glass. It is unclear who the manufacturer of this display is, but it is not Sharp, which is why the brand name Aquos is not included in the device name.

The camera on the Z3 uses a 16-megapixel Sony sensor with DTI pixel-to-pixel isolation and 4-axis optical image stabilization. Coupled with an F2.0 aperture and Phase-Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), this should mean some exciting mobile photoshooting. PDAF is also implemented on the inner camera, which is 13 megapixels and, interestingly, has a better low-light sensor with an F1.8 aperture. It's also a wide-angle (80.7 degrees) shooter.

Under the hood, the Sharp Z3 is weilding some equally impressive specs: the octa-core Snapdragon 625 MSM8976 clocked at 1.8 GHz and 1.4 GHz respectively, with the Adreno 510 GPU, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of onboard memory (ROM).

Since the Z3 is not locked to any carrier, it supports the full array of FDD LTE (B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B28), TDD LTE (B38/B39/B40/B41), WCDMA (850/900/1900/2100 MHz), CDMA (BC0), TD-CDMA (B34 / B39), and GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) frequencies – for both of its SIM cards that support dual stand-by mode. One SIM slot can be used to add extra storage, if needed.

Further connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 ab/g/n/ac (2.4/5 GHz), GPS/AGPS + GLONASS. Also available is an FM radio tuner.

The phone also flaunts a built-in intelligent amplifier to deliver pure sound for a great listening experience – thanks to its 24-bit HD audio processing capabilities.

A fingerprint sensor is also installed.

The Sharp Z3 measures 157.9 x 78.5 x 7.78 mm, and is a bit heavy, weighing in at 185 grams, including the non-removable 3100 mAh battery. It is only offered in Champagne Gold.
