Alongside the Aquos R2, Sharp have also announced the SIM-free Aquos Sense Plus – the next iteration in their mid-range series that was renamed Aquos Sense in 2017. The model name is SH-M07.
The Aquos Sense Plus has an IGZO dipslay measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (FHD+) and an aspect ratio of 18:9. This isn't the free-form display utilised in the Aquos R series and comes with no notches or rounded corners. In fact, the rather substantial top and bottom bezels make it look a lot like the old Aquos R. Sharp, however, claim that they have managed to increase the screen area by 23% when comparing it to the 2016 SIM-free SH-M04. This really is more of a marketing trick because, being of the Aquos Sense series, it ought to be compared to last year's Aquos Sense models.
The display employs Rich Color Technology Mobile, adopted from the high-range Aquos TVs, further enhanced by compliance (90% coverage) with the Digital Cinema Standard (DCI). Virtual HDR is featured, too.
The Aquos Sense Plus rear camera has a 16.4-megapixel HD fast-focus sensor. The front-facing camera is 8 MP and the screen glows white when shooting in a low-light environment so that faces retain their natural brightness.
The Aquos Sense Plus is powered by the mid-range Snapdragon 630 processor that has 4 x 2.2 GHz and 4 x 1.8 GHz cores. The phone comes with 3 GB of LPDDR 4X high-speed RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage. The max. supported size microSD cards is 256 GB.
The Aquos Sense Plus supports Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac at the standard 2.4 GHz and the high-speed 5 GHz frequency. Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and NFC/Felica are standard features.
The range of supported radio frequencies includes:
3G: Band 1 (2.0 GHz) / Band 2 (1.9 GHz) / Band 4 (1.7 GHz) / Band 5 (850 MHz) / Band 6 (800 MHz) / Band 8 (900 MHz) / Band 19 (800 MHz)
LTE: Band 2 (800 MHz) / Band 28 (700 MHz) / Band 41 (800 MHz) / Band 2 (800 MHz) / Band 2 (800 MHz) / Band 2 (1.9 GHz) / Band 3 (1.8 GHz) / Band 4 (1.7 GHz) / Band 5 (850 MHz) (2.5 GHz)
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.
A fingerprint scanner is mounted in the bottom bezel that also doubles as a Home button.
Since it is waterproof, and thanks to the IGZO technology, you can operate the screen even when your hands are wet. It is also dustproof. It's yet unclear if the Aquos Sense Plus will also be shock-proof, like last year's models (all but one).
The Aquos Sense Plus SH-M07 has a 3.5 mm audio jack, USB Type C + Quick Charge support.
Additional features include automatically turning the display on when picked up, Bright Keep – keeping the screen on and deterring display rotation while held in hand, Clip Now – capturing a screenshot by simply sliding one's finger along the top edge of the display, Scroll Auto for automatically scrolling the contents of a webpage or file, etc.
This phone will be available in white, black, and beige colours.
The SH-M07 measures 151 × 71 × 8.9 mm and weight 157 grams.
The device started selling on 22 June 2018, Android 8.0 preinstalled.
On 5 November 2019, an upgrade to Android 9.0 was released.
