SoftBank and their subsidiary Y!Mobile have just announced the next iteration in the Android One series, the Sharp Android One S7, to start selling after mid-December 2019.
This is, as the model line suggest, a mid-range device powered by a Snapdragon 630 processor. But for the first time in their mid-range series Sharp are installing LPDDR4x RAM type ensuring overall better performance. Not a lot of RAM, though – just 3 GB, coupled with 32 GB of on-board storage (expandable).
This is also the first Android One device by Sharp to offer shock-resistance protection (MIL-STD-810G) beside being water- and dustproof.
The Android One S7 has a 5.5-inch IGZO screen (unclear if it's the latest 5th generation) with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Thanks to the display's excellent energy-saving performance, Sharp are promising up to one week battery life!
With respect to photographic experience, the S7 should be able to cater for the needs of those less pretentious with its 12-megapixel large-pixel rear sensor capable of wide-angle (83° focal length) shooting and also, hopefully, decent low-light performance thanks to an f/2.0 aperture lens. The camera relies on the new ProPix2 image quality engine that enables subject blur correction and works in conjunction with electronic image stabilisation (images only).
The inner camera has an 8-megapixel, wide-angle (86° focal length), f/2.2 sensor that should be quite OK for most selfies.
Part of the Android One model series is the guaranteed delivery of all the latest Google updates and offerings, including OS upgrades for 2 years and updates for 3 years.
Connectivity is ensured by Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac standards at 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, and LTE/W-CDMA:
LTE (FDD): 2100 (B1) / 1800 (B3) / 900 (B8) / 850 (B5) / 800 (B18 / B19) / 700 (B12 / B17 / B28) MHz
LTE (TDD): 2500 (B41/AXGP) MHz
W-CDMA: 2100 (I) / 900 (VIII) / 850 (V) / 800 (VI / XIX) MHz
GSM 1900/1800/900/850 MHz.
The Android One S7 measures 70 × 147 × 8.9 mm and weighs 167 grams. It is available in light copper, silver, and black colour versions.
