SoftBank is releasing the "basic" version of the Aquos sense3, which is the most stripped down of the three available. This is actually advertised as a corporate version and is scheduled to reach the shops in mid-November 2019 and is codenamed 907SH.
The Aquos sense3 basic main selling point is its ability to last one week on a single battery charge, which is possible thanks to the huge battery savings only an IGZO display can offer. However, it's as yet unclear if this is the 5th generation IGZO that the Aquos R3 flagship boasts.
The screen on the Aquos sense3 basic (907SH) measures 5.5 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (18:9).
It is powered by the Snapdragon 630 processor, which is said to bring some 15% boost in CPU performance and 60% in graphics processing in comparison with the Snapdragon 450 found on last year's Aquos sense2.
Unlike the Rakuten "lite" version, however, which has 4 GB of RAM, the SoftBank "basic" only has 3 GB. The built-in storage space stays the same as in last year's Aquos sense2 – just 32 GB (the Rakuten version has 64 GB).
The Aquos sense3 basic has one 12-megapixel rear camera large-pixel sensor. It is advertised as performing great in low-light conditions – but with an aperture of f/2.0 it couldn't possibly rival the performance of the flagships. It's nonetheless a wide-angle camera (83°) equipped with electronic image stabilisation (EIS) for still photography but not for video. The ProPx2 image quality engine offers subject image stabilisation, which is to say it will take a number of shots of the subjects and select the best (unblurred) one and will also process it to reduce shake distortion.
The selfie camera is 8 MP with aperture size of f/2.2, wide-angle (86°).
The phone only supports face authentication (no fingerprint).
Supported radio frequencies include:
LTE (FDD): 2100 (B1) / 1800 (B3) / 900 (B8) / 850 (B5) / 800 (B18 / B19) / 700 (B12 / B17 / B28) MHz,
LTE (TDD): 2500 ( B41 / AXGP) MHz,
W-CDMA: 2100 (I) / 900 (VIII) / 850 (V) / 800 (VI / XIX) MHz,
GSM: 1900/1800/900/850 MHz
The Aquos sense3 basic measures 70 x 147 x 8.9 mm (W x L x D) and weighs 167 grams which makes is a hefty piece of phone.
Of course, it is both waterproof (IPX5/8) and dustproof (IP6X). An important addition is that it is also shock-resistant and is compliant with the MIL-STD-810G military standard, which in fact includes a total of 19 parameters.
Unlike the earlier Aquos sense and Aquos sense2 models, where the back cover is aluminium but with a surface coat of paint, which means they are prone to scratching and peeling, the Aquos sense 3 employs alumilite dyeing for the aluminium back cover – the metal itself is dyed – guaranteeing no peeling, hipping of paint or discolouration.
The business-targeted Aquos sense3 basic (907SH) is only offered in one colour: silver.
