The SH-M12 is the SIM-free version of the mid-range Aquos sense3 that is part of Sharp's Winter 2019/2020 collection.
The Aquos sense3 SH-M12 comes with the impressive promise of "1 week battery life", which is possible thanks to the huge battery savings only an IGZO display can offer. But we don't yet know if this is the 5th generation IGZO that the Aquos R3 flagship boasts. It does feature Sharp's Rich Color Technology Mobile for impressive colour-rendering.
The screen on the Aquos sense3 measures 5.5 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (18:9).
There has been a slight improvement in processing power in comparison with last year's Aquos sense2: the Aquos sense3 comes with the Snapdragon 630 processor, which is said to bring some 15% boost in CPU performance and 60% in graphics processing in comparison with the Snapdragon 450 found on last year's Aquos sense2.
The amount of available RAM has been upped a bit: from 3 GB to 4 GB, while the built-in storage space has been expanded twofold: from 32 GB to 64 GB.
On the rear we find two cameras, which is a novelty for a mid-range model. The first is a 12-megapixel rear camera that uses a large-pixels sensor and should perform fairly well in low-light conditions with its aperture size f/2.0. It's also a wide-angle (83° focal length) sensor employing electronic image stabilisation (EIS) – but only for still images. The new ProPix2 image quality engine allows correcting shooting subject blurring and the built-in AI can automatically create a "live story".
The second camera again has a 12-megapixel sensor but this one is extra-wide angle (121° focal length). Its aperture is less low-light-sensitive (f/2.4), it also employs EIS (still images only), has the subject blur correct feature and the AI live story feature.
The selfie camera is 8 MP, f/2.2, wide-angle (86° focal length).
The phone supports the now pretty standard face authentication and fingerprint authentication methods.
This might be the first phone Sharp are releasing in Japan that supports two SIM cards (DSDV-compatible), both LTE-enabled. In addition, the sXGP standard is implemented to ensure high security and stable network communication, making it the ideal phone for corporate use (Android Enterprise Recommended).
Supported radio frequencies include:
LTE: Band 1（2.0 GHz）/ Band 3（1.7 GHz）/ Band 5（850 MHz）/ Band 8（900 MHz）/ Band 12（700 MHz）/ Band 17（700 MHz）/ Band 18（800 MHz）/ Band 19（800 MHz）/ Band 39（1.9 GHz）/ Band 41（2.5 GHz)
3G: Band 1（2.0 GHz）/ Band 5（850 MHz）/ Band 6（800 MHz）/ Band 8（900 MHz）/ Band 19（800 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.
The Aquos sense3 SH-M12 measures 70 x 147 x 8.9 mm (W x L x D) and weighs 167 grams which makes is a hefty piece of phone.
Of course, it is both waterproof (IPX5/8) and dustproof (IP6X). But unlike the Rakuten variant, this one is also shock-resistant (MIL-STD-810H).
Traditionally, there is a 3.5-mm audio jack to enjoy hassle-free music with your favourite headphones. High-resolution audio (.flac and .wav formats) is supported.
The colour variations for the SH-02M are: light copper, black, silver white.
