The Aquos sense5G is the third phone from the Winter 2020 collection Sharp announced on 11 September. It is nearly identical to the base model Aquos sense4 – visually it is the same; the differences are all under the hood.

Carrier AU by KDDI is the first to officially announce the Aquos sense5G under model name SHG03 – the phone reached the shelves on 10 February 2021.

The Aquos sense5G comes with a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 px, made using the IGZO LCD technology. The display has one small cut-out at the top centre to accommodate the front-facing camera. No difference to the Aquos sense4.

The Aquos sense5G main selling point remains (like on the Aquos sense4) the one-week battery life (if used approx. 1 hour per day), thanks to energy-saving IGZO tech and to a huge 4,570 mAh battery – even with 5G communication.

Unlike the Aquos sense4, the 5G version is powered by a Snapdragon 690 5G, which is not as powerful as the 720G but supports 5G connectivity. The amount of installed memory remains the same, too: 4 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X), 64 GB of ROM, but storage has been upgraded to the UFS type. This explains why performance on the Aquos sense4 is estimated to be 2.2 times greater than that of last year's Aquos sense3, while performance on the Aquos sense5G is advertised as 2.4 times greater.

In terms of camera, everything stays the same as on the Aquos sense4: there are three camera sensors on the rear of the phone:

The inner camera sensor is 8 megapixels, f/2.0, wide-angle 78°, focal length equivalent 26 mm).

The Aquos sense5G is naturally equipped with face recognition and fingerprint recognition. A long-press of the fingerprint sensor activates the payment application, there is the Scroll Auto function that automatically scrolls content while reading, the Clip Now feature for quick and easy screenshots, and the Easy Mode that enlarges text and icons to make them easier to read for the elderly.

The Aquos sense5G measures 148 x 71 x 8.9 mm – the same as the Aquos sense4 – and weighs 178 grams. It is available in light copper, olive silver, and black colour variations.

The radio frequencies the SHG03 supports are as follows:
5G: 3.7 GHz (n77, n78), 700 MHz (n28)*, 4.0 GHz (n78)*
LTE: 700 MHz (Band 28), 800 MHz (Band 18), 800 MHz (Band 19), 900 MHz (Band 8), 1.7 GHz (Band 3), 2.0 GHz (Band 1), 3.5 GHz (Band 42)
3G (W-CDMA): 800 MHz (Band VI/XIX), 900 MHz (Band VIII), 2.0 GHz (Band I).
* After the update from 24 April 2021.

The AU model also features an FM radio tuner.

All of the Aquos sense5G series phones are released running Android 11. The upgrade to Android 12 rolled out on 24 February 2022.
