SoftBank subsidiary Y!mobile have released a stripped-down version of the Aquos sense4 – the basic – in their Winter 2020/2021 collection, under model name A003SH. The phone was first announced by Sharp in early September 2020. Sales are scheduled to begin on 19 November 2020.

The Aquos sense4 basic comes with a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 px, made using the IGZO LCD technology. The display has one small cut-out at the top centre to accommodate the front-facing camera. It is capable of reproducing a rich colour gamut compatible with the digital cinema standard (DCI-P3).

The Aquos sense4 basic main selling point is one week's battery life (if used approx. 1 hour per day), which is perfectly achievable thanks to energy-saving IGZO tech and to a huge 4,570 mAh battery. This is the largest capacity battery Sharp have ever installed on a mobile device.

It is powered by the mid-range Snapdragon 720G octa-core processor, has 3 GB of RAM (the docomo SH-41A has 4 GB) and 64 GB of built-in storage (ROM), which can be expanded using microSDXC cards of up to 1 terrabyte memory size. Sharp claim that the new processor ensures about 2.2 times better performance than the previous Aquos sense3 model. Graphics processing has been improved 4.2 times.

Improved heat dissipation design guarantees that the Aquos sense4 won't feel like a hot brick in your hands after half an hour of watching video or playing a game.

The Aquos sense4 basic is made from aluminium and has alumite dyeing with a texture that is difficult to peel off ir scratch. It is also resistant to bending and twisting.

The Y!mobile version of the Aquos sense4, the basic, has one camera sensor less than the Docomo SH-41A (which has three: standard, wide-angle, and telephoto):

The inner camera sensor is 8 megapixels, f/2.0, wide-angle 78°, focal length equivalent 26 mm).

The Aquos sense4 basic is naturally equipped with face recognition and fingerprint recognition. A long-press of the fingerprint sensor activates the payment application, there is the Scroll Auto function that automatically scrolls content while reading, the Clip Now feature for quick and easy screenshots, and the Easy Mode that enlarges text and icons to make them easier to read for the elderly.

This device is also suitable for corporate use thanks to compatibility with the sXGP standard for a high-security level and stable network communication.

The Aquos sense4 basic A003SH is waterproof, dustproof, and shock-resistant.

The following communication frequencies are supported by the Y!mobile version:
LTE (FDD): 2100(B1), 1800(B3), 900(B8), 850(V), 800(B18/B19), 700(B12/B17/B28) MHz;
LTE (TDD): 2500(B41/AXGP) MHz;
W-CDMA: 2100(I), 900(VIII), 850(V), 800(VI/XIX) MHz;
GSM: 1900, 1800, 900, 850 MHz

"Basic" also means it doesn't have the FM radio tuner that's featured on the Docomo version.

Initially released running Android 10, the Aquos sense4 basic received an upgrade to Android 11 on 28 January 2021.

The Aquos sense4 basic measures 148 x 71 x 8.9 mm, and weighs 176 grams. Y!mobile offers the following choice of colour: light copper, silver, and black.
