The first version of the Aquos sense5G to be announced outside of Japan is the SH-S50 for Taiwan.

The Aquos sense5G comes with a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 px, made using the IGZO LCD technology. The display has one small cut-out at the top centre to accommodate the front-facing camera. The IGZO display installed on the Aquos sense5G supports 120 Hz touch response.

The Aquos sense5G main selling point remains (like on the Aquos sense4) the one-week battery life (if used approx. 1 hour per day), thanks to energy-saving IGZO tech and to a huge 4,570 mAh battery – even with 5G communication.

Unlike the Aquos sense4, the 5G version is powered by a Snapdragon 690 5G, which is not as powerful as the 720G but supports 5G connectivity.

Unlike the Japanese variant, the Taiwan version has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB onboard storage – or double the Japanese. The RAM type has been upgraded to LPDDR4X and internal storage to UFS, which accounts for the estimated 2.4x performance boost in this model compared to last year's.

The camera setup on the Aquos sense5G is identical to that on the Aquos sense4: there are three camera sensors on the rear of the phone:

The inner camera sensor is 8 megapixels, f/2.0, wide-angle 78°, focal length equivalent 26 mm).

The Aquos sense5G is naturally equipped with face recognition and fingerprint recognition. A long-press of the fingerprint sensor activates the payment application, there is the Scroll Auto function that automatically scrolls content while reading, the Clip Now feature for quick and easy screenshots, and the Easy Mode that enlarges text and icons to make them easier to read for the elderly.

The Taiwanese variant, like the SIM-free version for Japan, has a dual SIM slot: one SIM card supports 5G, the other 4G connectivity. The radio frequencies supported by the Taiwanese variant are:

5G: n1(2100)/n3(1800)/n28(700)/n78(3500) MHz

LTE FDD: B1(2100)/B3(1800)/B7(2600)/B8(900)/B20(800)/B28(700) MHz

LTE TDD: B38(2600)/B41(2500) MHz

WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz

GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

All possible geolocation systems are supported: Dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, BaiDou, GALILEO, QZSS.

The Bluetooth version is 5.1, Wi-Fi support includes all six protocols (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) plus 4x4 MIMO, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct.

The Aquos sense5G measures 148 x 71 x 8.9 mm – the same as the Aquos sense4 – however, the weight is 178 grams. It is available in copper, and titanium black.

It is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant (MIL-STD-810H).

The Aquos sense5G rolls out running Android 11.
