Willcom and Sharp's next device, hitting the market in July 2008, is named Willcom 03, model name WS020SH, and it signalled the end of the W-ZERO3 lineup. The device, however, is very reminiscent of its predecessor – it comes with a 3-inch WVGA display and has the same form factor but now flaunts a touch-panel front keypad that can switch between a 4-way navigation pad with buttons and a numeric pad. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard is there, too.
The 800 x 480-pixel screen employs Sharp's Mobile ASV (Advanced Super View) LCD technology found on their Aquos TV series – it has an unprecedented viewing angle of up to 160° in all four directions and contrast ratio of 300:1, making it bright enough for comfortable outdoor use.
The built-in camera is equipped with an OCR scanner that can also recognise business cards and directly add the scan results as a new contact. A QR code scanner is also installed. The camera has a 2.0-megapixel sensor and can also record QVGA (320 x 240 px) videos in WMV format.
In the WS020SH, Sharp have decided to restore the Bluetooth 2.0 and One-Seg TV functionalities that they scrapped on the predecessor, the WS011SH.
Further connectivity methods include Wi-Fi b/g for up to 54 Mbps, PHS radio, and InfraRed.
The micro-USB port also supports host functionality for connecting peripheral devices.
The Willcom 03 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic.
It measures 50 x 116 x 17.9 mm (W x H x D) and weighs just 135 grams. The WS020SH is offered in black, pink, lime, and gold.
