Sharp's latest Android device for the Japanese market comes out branded for carrier AU KDDI (on 18 October 2010). The slab device has a 3.5-inch screen with the enormous resolution of 960 x 640 pixels and a secondary display measuring 40 x 208 pixels below it employing Sharp's Mimory technology, which will memorise the most frequently used shortcuts and display them together with missed calls info, the time etc. without the user having to light up the main screen for such basic needs.
The IS03 flaunts Sharp's Aquos Shot technology 9.57 megapixel CCD-matrix camera that is capable of a 22.2x zoom in 18 steps, and offers continuous shooting mode, macro focus etc. Up to 90 minutes of HD video (1280 x 720 pixels) can be recorded on this smartphone and stored on the 32 GB microSD.
The IS03 runs on Android 2.1 (updatable to 2.2), powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon S1 processor (QSD8650) with 512 MB of RAM, and has support for Flash Lite 4. Also offered are the traditional for Japan smartphone features such as Mobile Wallet (e-banking), One Seg TV, FM radio and AU's Sports and Walk application that includes a pedometer, and burnt calories meter!
The device features Osaifu-Keitai mobile payments, One Seg digital TV, and FM radio.
Connectivity is achieved by AU's "Global Passport" CDMA, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, IR, and mini-USB. The IS03 has GPS and a 6-axis motion sensor. It measures 63 × 121 × 12.6 (thickest part: 13.3) mm and weighs 138 grams.
