Sharp are releasing two new models for the Winter 2012/2013 AU KDDI collection - a smartphone and a smart pad. Here's what the smartphone, dubbed Aquos Phone Serie SHL21, looks like.
A 4.7-inch screen having 1280 x 720 pixels resolution using the S-CGSilicon technology, powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Krait dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 Ghz with the Adreno 225 graphics chip, and 1 GB of RAM. The built in storage capacity is the generous 16 GB, which can be extended even further using microSDXC card by up to 64 GB.
The Aquos Phone Series SHL21 comes with a 13.12 megapixel camera employing the ProPix engine with the now standard for Sharp smartphones optical image stabilization backlit CMOS sensor promising stable and clear images even at low light. Camera start-up from the locked screen shortcut is advertised as requiring just 0.4 seconds. The internal camera is 1.24 megapixels, also with a bak-illuminated CMOS sensor for low-light conditions.
Connectivity-wise, the SHL21 supports the 4G (LTE) network and the AU KDDI Win network. The Global Passport compatibility feature ensures overseas connectivity to most CDMA / GSM / UMTS networks. The phone also supports the dual-channel Wi-Fi a/b/g/n (2.4 Ghz / 5.0 Ghz), Bluetooth 4.0 and high speed Infrared.
The new "direct wave receiver" feature found on all Sharp smartphones of the Winter 2012/2013 collection is present here as well, which enables clear hearing even in crowded conditions by transmitting the sound waves by means of vibration through the device's body.
The smartphone can naturally receive OneSeg digital TV and features the Japanese Felica (Mobile Wallet) payment system but now enhanced using NFC.
Water-proofing (IPX5/IPX7) and dust-proofing (IP5X) come as standard as well.
It runs on Android 4.0 (upgrade to Jelly Bean pending) and has Sharp's and Frog's popular Feel UX user interface.
The Aquos Phone Series SHL21 measures 68 × 130 × 11.2mm (thickest part: 11.8mm), weighs 148 grams and comes with a 2040 mAh battery.
