The Aquos Phone Xx mini 303SH is the other new addition to Sharp and SoftBank's Winter 2013/2014 collection. But don't be misled by the "mini" monicker - it is only "mini" in comparison with the Aquos Phone Xx 303SH's 5.2 inches. The "mini" was officially released in mid-April 2014.

The 303SH comes with a 4.5-inch display and, unlike its bigger sibling, makes use of the IZGO tech - but still wields the impressive Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) resolution - and a very thin bezel allowing the screen to occupy 75% of the entire front surface of the phone. The series of phones where the screen estate has been increased in this way are dubbed by Sharp EDGEST.

The Aquos Phone Xx mini 303SH is powered by the same processor as the 302SH - the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (Qualcomm MSM8974), which is quad-core and clocked at 2.2 Ghz. The amount of installed operating memory (RAM) is 2 GB and the built-in storage space is 16 GB, expandable using SDXC cards.

Onboard is a 13.1 megapixel camera which is of the same BrightEye + NightCatch series having the world's first F 1.9 lens aperture + HDR shooting and background/foreground blur. The inner shooter is 1.2 megapixels.

Conveniently, the camera now comes with a built-in translation feature which makes it possible to capture English text, translate it into Japanese, and embed the translation in the original photo!

The Feel UX user interface found on all newer Sharp phones has seen some improvement and now offers a full screen image on the lock screen and other advantages. There is also a built-in quick launcher which will open a list of application shortcuts at the tap of a finger for convenient one-hand use.

The Aquos Phone Xx mini 303SH boasts the Feel Musician functionality offering an amazing listening experience with DTS sound and the ability to automatically launch the music player when headphones are plugged in, resuming playback from where you left off last time.

Like all Sharp devices, this one too comes with an eco-energy feature allowing energy saving settings to be applied with a single touch. Together with the most energy efficient display in the world, the IGZO, the 2120 mAh battery promises no less than two days of full use with one charge.

Connectivity-wise, SoftBank continue their competition with Docomo and now also offer 4G LTE connection guaranteeing download speeds of up to 110 mbps. An improvement in wireless connectivity has been made as well - now supported are 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac modes, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Supported radio frequencies include:
4G (FDD-LTE): 1.7GHz / 2.1GHz + AXGP system (2.5GHz) [only in Japan]
3G (W-CDMA): 900MHz / 2.1GHz
GSM: 900MHz / 1800MHz / 1900MHz.

The installed OS is Android 4.2. No upgrades possible.

The dimensions of the Aquos Phone Xx mini 303SH are 63 × 124 × 9.8mm. The weight is as yet unknown. Of course, it is water-proof (IPX5/IPX7) - capless

FullSeg digital television reception is supported.

Although the 303SH was released before the new SIM unlock policy went into effect, the phone can apparently be unlocked. Some sellers on Yahoo Auctions Japan offer the unlocking service for 4500 Yen. But it is only done by sending the phone to the unlocked by mail.
