In July 2015, the exact same phone now rebranded as Aquos Crystal Y, was released on Y! Mobile (former Willcom, now owned by SoftBank).

The Aquos Crystal X (SoftBank 402SH) is the second of two Sharp smartphones to be available in both Japan and the USA, in a sort of international release campaign, thanks to SoftBank's recent acquisition of US carrier Sprint.

The Aquos Crystal X has a 5.5-inch S-CG Silicon HD (1920 x 1080) LCD, where the display is a new general "Crystal Display" that is cut at the edges for a frameless LCD panel.

The phone is officially available to buy from SoftBank from 19th December 2014.

The processor is a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974AB clocked at 2.3 GHz, the amount of RAM is 2 GB, and the built-in storage (ROM) is 16 GB. Up to 128 GB microSDXC cards can be used to expand storage.

Supported foreign radio frequencies include: W-CDMA (900 MHz/2.1 GHz), GSM (900 MHz/1800 MHz/1900 MHz), FDD-LTE (1.7 GHz/2.1 GHz). The supported frequencies in Japan are: W-CDMA (900 MHz/2.1 GHz), AXGP (2.5 GHz), FDD-LTE (900 MHz/1.7 GHz/2.1 GHz)

The Aquos Crystal X comes with Android 4.4.4 pre-installed.

The camera is better as well: 13.1 megapixels, NightCatch II, real-time HDR, continuous shooting, multifocal shooting, 4K2K video capture, Framing Advisor, Search Finder, Translation Finder, Photo Sphere functionalities included. The camera does not have optical image stabilisation – only a software implementation called "camera-shake reduction".

The Aquos Crystal X is capable of playing quad HD (4K2K) videos, and allows for zooming on a portion of the screen just like on a webpage or a still image.

Other functions include: easy screenshot by sliding your finger right from the display's top left edge; one-hand assist, which allows downsizing the active screen so that you can reach everywhere using one hand only; and a quick lancher, accessible from the menu shortcuts.

The Aquos Crystal X, too, flaunts the "Crystal Sound" function that uses Harman Cardon sound processing technology to deliver unmatched immersive music experience when using headphones or Bluetooth connected speakers. It is not yet known if this phone will come with a Bluetooth speaker by Harman Cardon, like the smaller Aquos Crystal.

VoLTE (Voice over LTE or the so called HD Voice) is supported for high quality voice when talking on the phone.

To aid the voice clarify function is Direct Wave Receiver, something Sharp first implemented in two years ago but have not equipped all models with: the technology to transmit the incoming signal using vibration of the body, not using airwaves. This allows holding the phone as convenient, without worrying about the position of the earpiece, which is no fully eliminated.

Unfortunately, the Aquos Crystal is not water- or dust-proof. No Infrared or FullSeg TV but OneSeg is included. Bluetooth is ver. 4.0. Supported Wi-Fi standards include a/b/g/n/ac.

The phone weighs 157 grams and measures 139 x 73 x 11 mm. It is available in red, black, and white. The battery is 2610 mAh and should last about three days in normal use, although the Aquos Crystal X does not use the IGZO display but has a standard S-CG Silicon LCD.

Supported radio frequencies include GSM (900/1800/1900MHz), 3G (900MHz?2.1GHz), 4G (FDD-LTE, 900MHz?1.7GHz?2.1GHz).
