Docomo are the first Japanese carrier to announce the Aquos sense4 in their Winter 2020/2021 collection, under model name SH-41A. The phone was first announced by Sharp in early September 2020. Sales are scheduled to begin on 12 November 2020. Being a mid-range device, its price is more than attractive: just 37,224 Yen (approx 359 USD).

Aquos sense4 is the basic model. It comes with a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 px, made using the IGZO LCD technology. The display has one small cut-out at the top centre to accommodate the front-facing camera. It is capable of reproducing a rich colour gamut compatible with the digital cinema standard (DCI-P3).

The Aquos sense4 main selling point is one week's battery life (if used approx. 1 hour per day), which is perfectly achievable thanks to energy-saving IGZO tech and to a huge 4,570 mAh battery.

It is powered by the mid-range Snapdragon 720G octa-core processor, has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of built-in storage (ROM), which can be expanded using microSDXC cards of up to 1 terrabyte memory size. Sharp claim that the new processor ensures about 2.2 times better performance than the previous Aquos sense3 model. Graphics processing has been improved 4.2 times.

Improved heat dissipation design guarantees that the Aquos sense4 won't feel like a hot brick in your hands after half an hour of watching video or playing a game.

The Aquos sense4 is made from aluminium and has alumite dyeing with a texture that is difficult to peel off ir scratch. It is also resistant to bending and twisting.

The Aquos sense4 has evolved in terms of photography, too. There are now three camera sensors on the rear of the phone:

The inner camera sensor is 8 megapixels, f/2.0, wide-angle 78°, focal length equivalent 26 mm).

The Aquos sense4 is naturally equipped with face recognition and fingerprint recognition. A long-press of the fingerprint sensor activates the payment application, there is the Scroll Auto function that automatically scrolls content while reading, the Clip Now feature for quick and easy screenshots, and the Easy Mode that enlarges text and icons to make them easier to read for the elderly.

This device is also suitable for corporate use thanks to compatibility with the sXGP standard for a high-security level and stable network communication.

The SH-41A is waterproof, dustproof, and shock-resistant.

This is the first model in quite a while to feature an FM radio tuner.

Initially released running Android 10, the Aquos sense4 received an upgrade to Android 11 on 27 January 2021. The update to Android 12 rolled out on 9 May 2022.

The Aquos sense4 measures 148 x 71 x 8.9 mm, and weighs 177 grams. If buying the SH-41A from a brick-and-mortar store, you'll be able to choose from four colour variations: light copper, silver, black, and light blue colour variations. For those keen e-shoppers, three more variants will be available: red, blue, and yellow.
